Fellow Projects

Built at Studio

These are working tools built by Terra Studio fellows, most of whom had never deployed software before week one. Each project applies the frameworks, techniques and templates the program teaches.

CONVERGE

Mario
The problem

Semiconductor supply chains run through a handful of countries where climate hazards, regulations like UFLPA and CSDDD, and supplier concentration pile up on the same map. Risk teams currently piece the answer together from weather sites and spreadsheets to work out whether they are exposed.

What they built

An interactive explorer that pulls live feeds from Open-Meteo, GDACS and USGS across 15 fab clusters, runs real events through a Monte Carlo recovery model, and lets you enter your own sourcing footprint for a personalized risk score. When a major earthquake struck near a Japanese fab cluster in July 2026, the event appeared on the map without anyone updating it.

How it happened

CONVERGE began as a compliance checker. Mario renamed it once the data showed the real story was the convergence itself, three kinds of risk stacking on the same locations. The Diversification Trap, one of the tool's central findings, started as a hunch from his day job in supply-chain risk and only became visible when he put climate data next to it.

Water Risk map interface showing risk layers for a location in Southern Spain
WaterAdaptationMaps

Water Risk

Edita
The problem

Drought, flood and supply data for Southern Spain exists, but it sits scattered across agencies and reads like it was written for hydrologists. A resident or prospective home buyer has no way to ask what any of it means for them.

What they built

Pick a location, browse the available water-risk layers on a map, then chat through how the findings would affect you as a resident or buyer. A Spanish toggle serves the people the data describes.

How it happened

Edita came to water data from outside the field, so she gave every layer two tests: does it exist, and does it hold up when checked against other sources? She ran the build like a team, with separate AI agents for each role sharing handoff files. A follow-up covering fire and water risk along the Mediterranean coast is already underway.

JanVayu air quality tool showing health advisory and accountability brief
Air qualityPublic healthIndia

JanVayu

Varna
The problem

Air quality data in India is abundant and mostly unusable: raw numbers with no answer to what a resident should do today, or who is answerable for the reading being what it is.

What they built

JanVayu pairs an ask-anything interface with a health advisory and an accountability brief, so the same reading tells you how to protect yourself and where the responsibility sits. An easy mode keeps technical explanations approachable, and the full tech stack is documented in a public GitBook.

RhodeWaste Organics Navigator eligibility checker and tonnage calculator
Food wastePolicyCompliance

RhodeWaste Organics Navigator

Dee
The problem

Rhode Island's Commercial Food Waste Ban is law with real requirements, and organizations struggle to work out whether it covers them. The state's own food policy council told legislators the law needs dedicated technology and technical assistance to be followable.

What they built

A navigator that answers the coverage question in under two minutes, with a transparent tonnage calculator and a directory of composting facilities and haulers. The law's requirements are explained in plain language throughout.

How it happened

Dee watched an experienced builder deploy an app live and admitted in Slack she was scared to try it herself. She set one condition on what she would build, in her own words: just because we can use AI to build, should we. Three practice builds later she shipped this, grounded in Rhode Island Food Policy Council data and sharpened by cohort feedback in office hours.

Game of Life climate policy board game showing cabinet roles and political-health meter
GamesPolicySystems thinking

Game of Life

Andy
The problem

Climate policy is a system of lag effects and political trade-offs, which makes it hard to teach in the abstract and easy to underestimate in practice.

What they built

A single-player strategy game covering 24 years of decisions across six cabinet roles: Energy, Treasury, Environment, Agriculture, Foreign Trade and Civil Resilience. Policies take rounds to pay off, and a political-health meter tracks whether you keep your job while world events force you to adapt mid-plan.

KelpConnect marketplace connecting kelp harvesters, buyers and restoration organizations
OceansRestorationMarketplace

KelpConnect

Dan
The problem

California's kelp forests are collapsing under climate-driven change offshore, and the harvesters, buyers and restoration organizations who could respond have no shared place to find each other.

What they built

A prototype marketplace connecting all three, anchored in current California kelp-restoration policy. Supplier and buyer listings are placeholders for now; the resources, data and statistics behind them are vetted and sourced.

How it happened

Dan built KelpConnect on the idea that restoring an ecosystem and restoring livelihoods should be the same act. Stakeholders are lined up to test it, including a marine science center running an urchin ranching lab inside a restoration zone.

Eco Sonic Guide catalog of climate and nature songs from around the world
CultureMusicCuration

Eco Sonic Guide

Vasudha
The problem

Playlists about climate and nature tend to draw from the same Anglo-American catalog, which leaves out most of the world's musical traditions on exactly these themes.

What they built

A curated catalog of over 40 verified songs spanning climate, nature and folk tradition from across the globe. Every entry links to Bandcamp or the artist's own page, so listening supports the musicians directly.
